Rationale 6: This blog page was developed in my EDT650 class for use in my 7th and 8th grade math classes as a way to encourage communication with students and their parents. So far I have used this page for the second semester of one school year. I plan on making some changes to my page and use it regularly this upcoming school year. Having a blog page for students and families provides an additional form of communication, can enrich learning opportunities, and can help students express themselves through the use of technology.
As a teacher in the 21st century I am always trying to keep up with the ever changing trends of my students environment. Having a blog page for students has helped me to do that in terms of communicating and staying connected to my learners. Through this I have developed a better understanding of how important it is for students to have different options for communication; some students loved using the blog page, others preferred to just talk face to face in class. I have learned from my students feedback about my blog that using media communication is quite comfortable for them but is not the preferred method of communication for all.

6.K.4.: The teacher recognizes the importance of nonverbal, verbal and media communication techniques.
In my classroom, students are given many opportunities to communicate in different ways. At times they are asked to write things, other times to demonstrate or draw things. This blog page allows for and encourages communication through use of media.
6.S.5.: The teacher knows how to use a variety of media communication tools, including audiovisual aids and computers, to enhance learning opportunities.
This blog page includes links for my students to different math sites where they can play games and practice skills. Often times using computer games has made student learning more fun and meaningful.
6.D.2.: The teacher values many ways in which people seek to communicate and encourages many modes of communication in the classroom.
I try to always provide alternate ways to communicate, giving my students different options for writing and speaking. I encourage the use of my blog page but have not mandated its use knowing that some students would not be as comfortable using it as others.
